Is a baby sinkhole forming on Providence Road? After one uptown, Charlotte keeps watch.
Charlotte isn’t “sinkhole city” yet, but a big one opened near Bank of America Stadium two weeks ago and now the city put up orange barricades on Providence Road where a baby sinkhole appears to be forming.
A video posted on the app Citizen on Tuesday evening showed people gathering on the sidewalk, trying to get a better view of hole, and cracking jokes.
“We need to figure out where to get some popcorn and Coors Light,” one neighbor said. “This is exciting for us.”
At the end of July, a large sinkhole appeared near Bank of America Stadium on South Cedar Street. Photos taken by the Observer show the cracked cement with orange tape placed around the sinkhole.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services said South Cedar Street was repaired and reopened on Tuesday.
City spokesperson Lawrence Corley said the lane at 1244 Providence Road was closed for water service repair. However, the lane was open again by Wednesday afternoon.
