South Charlotte house fire victim was 68-year-old man; 91-year-old also injured

A 68-year-old man was the person killed in a house fire in south Charlotte on Jan. 23, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report.

The fire occurred at 1:50 a.m. in the 9200 block of Raintree Lane, the Charlotte Fire Department said.

Gregory Allen Long was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital, and another man, 91-year-old Lynn Julian Long Jr., was injured in the fire and taken to a burn center for treatment, the fire department said.

A neighbor called 911 after seeing the Long’s home was on fire.

The fire started on the back deck area of the home, causing $177,000 in damages to the home, fire officials said.

Investigators have not released a cause by found the fire to be accidental, according to the police report.
