Two people die in south Charlotte crash after vehicle veers into oncoming traffic

Two people died in a vehicle crash in south Charlotte Wednesday evening after a driver veered into oncoming traffic, police said in a news release.

The crash occurred at 6:10 p.m. in the 1600 block of Westinghouse Boulevard where a Ford Mustang crashed into a Chevrolet Camaro, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

The Mustang was traveling west on Westinghouse Boulevard when the driver veered into oncoming traffic on the left, striking the Camaro, police said.

Both vehicles became engulfed in flames and the driver and passenger of the Mustang died at the scene, police said. The driver of the Camaro was taken the hospital.

Police have not identified the two people killed.
