The Juneteenth holiday is coming up, and that means shoppers may need to plan ahead.

As Charlotte residents commemorate the end of slavery in the United States on Friday, June 19, local banks, post offices, recreation centers and government offices will be closed. But you may be in luck if you want to get fresh air or grab groceries, as many parks and supermarkets in the Queen City plan to be open.

Here’s what we found when we scoured government websites and reached out to a dozen major grocery chains.

Bank and post office closings

On Juneteenth, the U.S. Postal Service will close all of its post offices nationwide and won’t deliver mail. But shipping services FedEx and UPS plan to operate on the holiday, and you can look up store hours on their websites.

Also, banks with a presence in North Carolina — including Wells Fargo and Bank of America — won’t open to customers in observance of the national holiday.

Charlotte-area Juneteenth closings

Offices for Mecklenburg County and the city of Charlotte are closed on Juneteenth.

The county in a news release said people won’t be able to visit its nature, recreation or senior centers on the holiday. But parks and nature preserves will remain open, and schedules could vary at outdoor pools and spraygrounds.
