Search of car found down embankment on Christmas leads to homicide victim, CMPD says

A car spotted at the bottom of an embankment on Christmas day has been deemed a homicide case, after the occupant died of injuries inconsistent with a wreck, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The victim has been identified as Kennedi Aniyah Flora Jones, CMPD said in a news release.

Jones’ was discovered in the 4800 block of Shamrock Drive, near the Hickory Grove Road intersection.

“At 11:20 p.m., officers responded to a call for service in reference to a motor vehicle crash with injuries,” CMPD said.

“Officers located a vehicle down an embankment near the road. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered a female driver with life-threatening injuries. MEDIC arrived and the driver was transported to Atrium Main.”

Jones was pronounced dead by staff at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, officials said.

Investigators have not revealed the nature of her injuries.
