No one will be charged in a fatal March shooting because it was “justified,” the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a press release Wednesday.

Police did not release the names of the shooter and the man killed — or any details of what happened.

Officers found a 28-year-old man dead at 1:55 p.m. March 19 in the 9800 block of Mary Alexander Road in northeast Charlotte, a police report said.

A police report said the “justifiable homicide” occurred in a parking lot.

The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office declined to bring charges after speaking with CMPD detectives, the department said.

Arrest made in another case

An arrest was made in the killing of Loren Garnet Dudley, 61, who was found dead with a gunshot wound Jan. 22 in 2500 block of Catalina Avenue, a neighborhood off North Tryon Street.

A police affidavit said Dudley’s cousin reported his cousin had been shot in the chest in his home.

Rebecca Oxendine, 42, was arrested on April 1 and charged with murder and robbery with a deadly weapon, a CMPD press release said. The affidavit said she admitted to shooting Dudley after an argument. She was also identified by a witness whose statement was corroborated by surveillance footage from the home.

A bond was not authorized in her case, court records say.

CMPD has reported 22 homicides in Charlotte in 2025, according to press releases on its website.
