Police have charged two people in connection with the east Charlotte killing of a 24-year-old man.

Dontre Williams was shot and killed in the 1900 block of Milton Road on June 24.

CMPD said Wednesday that detectives identified a 17-year-old suspect in the case. The teen was charged with murder on July 8.

On Thursday, police said they arrested Antonio Ray, 21, on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, according to the police department’s case update.

CMPD reported mid-year stats Thursday that say from January through June there have been 42 homicides in Charlotte compared to 59 in the same time period last year. Along with the 29% decrease, the police department reported four homicides so far in July.

Mecklenburg District Attorney Spencer Merriweather’s office said Friday that its homicide team had convicted 46 defendants in the first half of the year, according to a news release.
