Police make arrest in fatal shooting near Latta Arcade in uptown Charlotte
A man was fatally shot near The Alley at Latta Arcade on Brevard Court in uptown Charlotte Thursday afternoon, police said.
Officers arrested Jarius Tamaal Jackson in the shooting, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department records, Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported. He turned himself in on the scene, according to court records.
Jail records show that he is being held on no bond.
According to court records, Jackson shot Jahday Humphrey at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday after Humphrey began a “verbal altercation” and “punched (Jackson) in the face multiple times.”
Jackson “claimed to be in fear for his life,” according to a police affidavit. He shot Humphrey multiple times, and Humphrey later died at the hospital.
The victim was a regular at Nefelie’s, a bar in the popular alley in the 100 block of Brevard Court, WSOC reported.
