A Charlotte man has been arrested in connection with a brutal baseball bat attack at a shopping mall, according to investigators in Concord, North Carolina.

It happened at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Carolina Mall and the victim was hospitalized with injuries across much of his body, court documents report. The mall is near intersection of Interstate 85 and Concord Parkway North, about a 25-mile drive northeast from uptown Charlotte.

Mohamed Adams, Jr., 38, has been charged in the case and investigators believe they have a motive, Concord police said in a Feb. 23 news release.

“Preliminary investigation suggests this was not a random attack. Investigators believe the suspect targeted the victim, who is a coworker of the suspect’s ex-girlfriend,” police said.

An arrest warrant reports the victim suffered “bruises all over (his) body, a gash on the head, and possibly broken bones.”

He was taken to a hospital and released later that day, police say.

Adams was arrested Monday and charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury, police said.

Investigators did not release the victim’s name or details of where the attack occurred at the mall.
