Pregnant woman is OK after being stabbed by stranger at Cotswold shopping center
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is searching for a woman who stabbed a pregnant woman outside Harris Teeter in the Cotswold Village shopping center around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The 38-year-old pregnant woman told Channel 9 she was getting her toddler out of her car when the assailant, who had pulled out of the space behind her, stopped her car, got out, cursed at her, and attacked her with a knife.
“I was facing my toddler, getting him out of his seat, and thankfully turned around, and she was coming at me with a steak knife,” said the victim, who asked not to be identified.
The woman was stabbed in the sternum, but she is all right. So is her unborn child. The woman said she had never seen her attacker before and has no idea what prompted the incident.
“I pushed and kicked and screamed, and thankfully I think that scared her off,” she said.
Harris Teeter declined to comment and referred all questions to CMPD. CMPD directed Channel 9 to the police report, which did not provide any additional information.
The woman who was attacked is encouraging people to be aware of their surroundings.
“Thankfully, I turned around, because if I had been facing my car, it could have been much worse,” she said.
CMPD has not made any arrests or released any information about the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the CrimeStoppers anonymous tips line at 704-334-1600.
