One killed, four wounded at ‘party gone wrong’ in Charlotte, CMPD says
A 20-year-old man was killed, and four other people were wounded when gunfire erupted at a “party gone wrong” in north Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 5900 block of Hucks Road, which is south of the intersection of Interstate 485 and Old Statesville Road, maps show.
The man who died has been identified as Richard Jeddiah Thomas, CMPD said in a March 22 news release. Identities of the wounded have not been released.
CMPD Maj. Gene Lim said officers were summoned to the home by someone reporting an assault with a deadly weapon.
“Upon arrival there was a ton of people here, younger adults, and there was a person who had succumbed to gunshot wounds behind a residence here,” he said.
“Two additional victims (a male and female) were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.”
Investigators discovered two more victims later in the evening, including one who “self-transported to a local hospital” with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Attendees at party appeared to range from high-school age to college age, Lim said.
“Upon arrival here, I probably passed about 50 young adults,” Lim said in a video posted on social media. “It’s disturbing. ... Don’t know if their parents are coming. I don’t know if their parents even know where they are.”
A motive for the shootings has not been released.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the CMPD Homicide Unit at 704-432-8477 (TIPS). Anonymous tips can be offered through calling Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
