For decades, Charlotte’s Second Ward High School played a pivotal role in the city’s education system as the first high school for African American students.

From athletic and academic achievement, to changes brought by integration and gentrification, Second Ward’s rich history features numerous notable moments. The school’s history did not end with its closure, as alumni and community members have worked for decades to tell the story of Second Ward’s impact on Charlotte.
