Roaches on walls & in food prep line at Charlotte Mexican restaurant: Inspection scores

A Charlotte restaurant known for its Honduran and Mexican fare received a “B” grade from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, including the presence of insects.

Costa Del Sol, 10215 Park Rd., received a score of 88.5 during its July 5 inspection.

Health department inspectors cited the restaurant after finding three roaches on the wall, documents show. Two roaches were found in the dish area, and one was found near the food prep line.

Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:

  • Food debris on shelves and floors

  • Raw shell eggs stored over sour cream

  • Milk, cheese, pork, raw chicken, beef, cut cabbage and other foods stored above required temperatures

This is the restaurant’s first “B” grade.

According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70 percent.

The Charlotte Observer contacted the restaurant for comment regarding its score prior to publication.
