Candidates across North Carolina are launching their campaigns for office in 2024 elections, including folks running for offices in Charlotte-area counties.

In addition to statewide races for governor and more, candidates are running for local, legislative and congressional positions in Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Iredell, Lincoln and Gaston counties.

Current state Rep. John Bradford will face five opponents in the Republican primary for U.S. House District 8, including Mark Harris, whose 2018 congressional campaign was at the center of a ballot-harvesting scandal. Bradford had been campaigning for state treasurer but changed course during the filing period.

And fellow state Rep. Tricia Cotham, who made headlines when she switched parties from Democrat to Republican, will have to wait to find out her general election opponent. A trio of Democrats — Yolanda Holmes, Nicole Sidman and Terry Lansdell — will face off in a primary to run against her in the new state House District 105.

In state House District 104, three-term Democratic Rep. Brandon Lofton will face a challenge from Republican Krista Bokhari, the wife of Charlotte City Council member Tariq Bokhari. In 12 of 19 Mecklenburg legislative races, Republicans did not field a candidate.

The filing period ran from Dec. 4 to Dec. 15. Primary elections will be held March 5, and general election day is Nov. 5.

Here’s who filed to run in congressional, legislature and local races. Go here for a full list of statewide candidates.
