Here is the Observer’s Ultimate high school football player of the week

For the first time this season, the Observer allowed readers to vote for a high school football player of the week.

After the season, the Observer held one final vote, bringing back all of the previous winners to determine an ‘Ultimate’ player of the week.

That player is Richmond Senior’s Jaheim Covington. Covington won player of the week twice. The first time was in October, after he ran 13 times for 187 yards and four touchdowns against Fayetteville Britt. That week, Covington trailed in the vote early but made a late comeback.

Covington won again in November, becoming the first player to win twice. He won after rushing 12 times for 202 yards in a 36-27 win over Hough in the second round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4AA playoffs.

For the season, Covington, a senior, ran 151 times for 1,293 yards and 23 touchdowns. He led Richmond in rushing. The Raiders reached the N.C. 4A Western Regional championship game.
