Tuesday’s prep boys rewind: No. 1 North Meck flexes muscles, blows past No. 4 Vance

Tuesday night in north Charlotte, North Mecklenburg High School flexed its considerable basketball muscle.

The Vikings, No. 1 in the Sweet 16, went to No. 4 Vance and won 95-55.

Tristan Maxwell, a Georgia Tech named a McDonald’s All-American nominee this week, had 24 points, four assists. Trayden Williams had 20 points, six assists and four rebounds. Sophomore center Jeremy Gregory had 14 points, nine rebounds.

North Meck also got big performances from Shamann Artis (13 points) and Chris Ford (eight points, 13 rebounds).

The Vikings led 25-13 after the first quarter and 48-21 at halftime. North Meck made eight 3-point shots in a dominant first half.

Elevator

Jaden Bradley, Cannon: sophomore became the fastest player in school history to score 1,000 points in a close win at Providence Day.

Charlotte Christian: In a 72-36 win over CISAA rival Charlotte Country Day, the Knights had 24 assists on 30 made field goal attempts. Peter Lash had 16 points, 12 rebounds to lead the Knights.

Westminster Catawba: The school won 16 games total from the start of the 2014 season to the end of 2019. Tuesday, under first-year coach Ed Addie, Westminster improved to 16-1.

Jack Carter, North Lincoln: 28 points in an 82-63 win over Newton-Conover.

Troy Fulton, Lincoln Charter: 21 points in a 68-48 win over Thomas Jefferson. Fulton made 7-of-11 3-point attempts. Teammate Axel Holm had 11 points, eight assists and six rebounds.

Que Garner, Freedom: 21 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals in a 72-58 win over Alexander Central. Teammate Bradley Davis had 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Randy Johnson, Charlotte Latin: 23 points, five assists in a 54-51 win over Covenant Day. Graham Calton added 19 points and six rebounds for Latin (14-5, 2-1 CISAA).

Tristan Maxwell, North Mecklenburg: Maxwell had 24 points, four assists in a 95-55 win over Vance.
