HS Basketball Rewind: No. 2 Carmel Christian, Combine win at Phenom Tip Off

Some teams in the Observer’s coverage area kicked off high school basketball season earlier this week, but tonight is the beginning of the year for some of the heavyweight private school and non-association teams in North Carolina.

Public schools start play on Friday, Nov. 18.

Two big tournaments in the area will kick off the weekend.

Why is girls basketball participation falling off?

On Tap Saturday

At Carmel Christian, Phenom Hoops will host its annual tip-off event. Games begin at noon and include a potential look at the private 3A state championship game when Concord Academy faces Greensboro Day at 4:30.

Also Saturday, N.C. Independent power Providence Day will host a three-game event at 2 p.m.

Josh Bullock, Northside Christian: Lake Norman Christian transfer had a team-high 23 points in a 71-59 win over Quality Education Friday. Teammate Antonio Perkins added 20. Northside outscored Quality Education 16-4 in overtime to win.

Bryce Cash, Carmel Christian: 15 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists in a 65-53 season-opening win over Northwood Temple.

Rakease Passmore, Combine Academy: national recruit had a team-high 17 points in a 69-52 win over The Burlington School.

Avion Pinner, Concord Academy: 24 points, 11 rebounds in an 84-71 win over Carolina International Thursday.

Michael Wilson, Metrolina Christian: 30 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, five steals in a 72-41 win over Covenant Classical. Wilson made 6-of-7 3-point attempts.
