One person killed, another injured in Charlotte’s second Memorial Day shooting
One person died and another was injured in a shooting Monday night in northwest Charlotte, marking the second Memorial Day shooting death in the area.
The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. on the 3200 block of Rozzelles Ferry Road, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Daveon Antonio Andrews, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene. CMPD is calling the incident a homicide.
Another victim, also an adult male, was located a block away at the Fast Stop convenience store and transported to Carolina’s Medical Center – Main to be treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.
CMPD says both victims were shot at the same time and location.
Multiple news outlets, including WBTV, reported that more gun shots were fired at the crime scene later Monday night as news crews gathered to get more details from CMPD.
Monday night’s shooting marks Charlotte’s 36th homicide of the year, which has been an unusually violent one so far. Earlier Monday, a man was shot and killed outside a Travel Inn in north Charlotte.
CMPD reported 68 homicides in 2016, and 60 in 2015.
CMPD is conducting a homicide investigation in the 3200 block of Rozzelles Ferry Rd. One person has been pronounced deceased.
