Teenager shot to death after stepping outside north Charlotte home, police say
A teenager was shot and killed in north Charlotte early Saturday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced.
Officers were called to the 2400 block of Carmine Street after midnight, where the victim, 16-year-old Jarquavise Demonta White was found injured in the front yard of a home. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
Police said White appeared to have stepped outside the home and a short time later, his family heard gunshots and found him lying outside.
The death marked the city’s fifth homicide of the year.
There were 87 homicides in Charlotte in 2017, more than any year since 1995.
Authorities have not released additional information about the case.
