Teenage girl charged with murder in fatal east Charlotte robbery
A 16-year-old girl has been charged in connection with the death of Maria Eduvigig Echeverria de Gomez, who was killed during a robbery Tuesday morning in east Charlotte.
The girl, Ziaya Chanel Jackson, turned herself in to the Mecklenburg County Jail on Saturday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said. She has been charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Jackson is the fourth teenager to be charged with murder in connection with this case. The others are 19-year-old Antonio Darnell Shine, 17-year-old A'vone Williams and a 15-year-old boy whose name has not been released because of his age.
Gomez was on her way to work shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday when she was robbed and shot on the 6200 block of Barrington Drive, according to police and local news reports.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital. WSOC reported that she was the mother of a 13-year-old.
