Jimmy Pearls is back at The Market at 7th Street, ‘where it all began’ in Charlotte
Jimmy Pearls is back — back in its old stomping grounds at The Market at 7th Street, starting on Sept. 13.
Chefs Daryl Cooper and Oscar Johnson, who you may remember from CharlotteFive’s series The Skillet: How Black Cuisine Became America’s Supper, had taken a break from running their restaurant in the space to focus on their food truck. But the pair announced Monday on Instagram that they’re returning to the spot where it all started.
“Last summer, we left the market to pursue the food truck and we can’t wait to be back where it all began. Jimmy Pearl will take over the former Uptown Yolk location, meaning more space and more opportunities to get creative with our menu which will feature classics like our signature Uncle Gene’s fish along with some newcomers!” the post stated.
The chefs are known for their Tidewater cuisine, using seafood to showcase their roots in Virginia, where they both grew up. “All of our food is going to have history behind it, for instance: The Uncle Gene’s fish sandwich is a homage to my grandmother and his uncle,” Cooper previously told CharlotteFive.
When the restaurant space opens, the food truck will be used exclusively for catering parties and culinary events, a news release said.
“The overall experience has been great for the simple fact that we’re still waking up every day to represent the Jimmy Pearls brand and serve our community,” Johnson said. “Honing our craft is important to us so that we stay fluent with the various culinary techniques we use.”
