This Charlotte bakery is closing, but won’t be gone for good. Details on what’s next
A popular Black-owned bakery featured on Food Network has closed. But you’ll still be able to get a taste.
BW Sweets Bakery, which was created in 2011, has closed its retail locations, announced in an Instagram post.
“It has been my honor to provide sweets for my community for the last 12 years,” the post says. “In this ever changing world, as a business owner, we must constantly look for ways to maintain and expand our business while navigating the rising costs of goods and services and payroll. An opportunity has presented itself, one that will change the trajectory of BW Sweets Bakery forever.”
In the social media post, owner Frankie White said the bakery is launching a new e-commerce business for delivery services, in addition to selling its popular sweets in local restaurants and grocery stores.
The dessert bar, known for its custom cakes, decorative cookies and other treats, has been a popular spot in the community, with multiple locations around Charlotte over the years.
BW Sweets has also gotten national recognition — White was a featured competitor on Food Network’s “Girl Scout Cookie Championship,” in 2020.
“I’ve met a lot of great people, built some amazing partnerships, put some folks through schools, lots of charity work, employed lots of people, won lots of awards and made lots of friends,” the post says. “Thank you so much for all the years of support.”
