A Charlotte restaurant and rooftop bar run by a celebrity chef have closed their doors.

After three years, Red Salt by David Burke and Cloud Bar by David Burke, both located in the Le Méridien hotel, have officially closed.

Burke, who is known for appearances on Bravo’s “Top Chef” and Food Network’s “Iron Chef,” opened the restaurant and rooftop bar back in 2020. He also recently took over Port City Club in Cornelius and has another concept, G.O.A.T. Pizza, on the way to Lake Norman, too.

Le Méridien rooftop lounge still open

While Red Salt and Cloud Bar have closed, the rooftop lounge will remain open and the hotel will still serve cocktails and light food fare while the team at Le Méridien reinvents the spaces, according David Burke Hospitality Management. All Red Salt and Cloud Bar employees were also offered opportunities to work at Burke’s other restaurants.

“Over the years, I have had the opportunity to connect with the Charlotte community through friends and family, and I have been impressed by not only the growth, but the city’s diverse and vibrant culture, culinary and mixology scene,” Burke said in a statement ahead of opening Red Salt and Cloud Bar.

But after three years, a representative for his team told CharlotteFive that its leadership felt uptown never got back to full occupancy, so now the focus is on the celebrity chef’s newest venture, The Fox & Falcon, opening soon in SouthPark.

“The decision to leave the location was not taken lightly,” the company said in a statement sent to CharlotteFive. “Instead, it is fueled by the prospect of moving into a new space that aligns more closely with the company’s vision and desire to operate in the mixed-use neighborhood of SouthPark.”

Burke is taking over the space of another popular restaurant, Dogwood: A Southern Table & Bar, which is closing this month.

“When the coveted Dogwood space in SouthPark became available, we quickly decided to reallocate resources on what will become The Fox & Falcon,” Chef David Burke said. “We are committed to fostering a lasting presence in Charlotte and look forward to seeing the many friends we made at Red Salt at our other locations. Charlotte’s enthusiasm for the culinary arts aligns perfectly with our passion, and we are thrilled to be a part of its journey.”

The Fox & Falcon is planning to open at the end of September or early October, Hynes said on Friday afternoon. The food will be upscale American complimented with an excellent wine and craft cocktail program.
