A popular spot for seafood lovers is officially leaving the Lake Norman area.

“With incredibly heavy hearts,” the team behind The Waterman Fish Bar is permanently closing its Cornelius location.

“We are so thankful to every one of you that supported us along this voyage. It’s been an honor to be a part of this community and we will cherish the memories made here,” the restaurant’s closure announcement says on Instagram.

The neighborhood seafood joint opened its flagship restaurant in South End nearly five years ago. It wasn’t too long before The Waterman brought a taste of its Southern seafood — with a bit of New Orleans inspiration — just minutes away from Lake Norman in 2022, CharlotteFive previously reported.

But this will be the last week for you to get the restaurant’s oysters, boat drinks and seafood platters at the 360 bar or wrap-around patio before it closes for good on Sunday, Feb. 2.

When asked about the closing, a team member told CharlotteFive that they are focused on opening its full-service restaurant at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, along with the newest Ace No. 3 location in uptown.

“We do intend to grow this brand again, we just don’t know where our next home will be next,” CharlotteFive was told in a direct message via Instagram.
