A Charlotte taproom is closing its doors soon. Here’s what’s happening.

A Charlotte area brewery’s Plaza Midwood taproom is closing its doors.

Southern Strain Brewing Co.’s lease for the Charlotte outpost, which opened in 2021, is coming to an end.

“After five tasty years, our Plaza Taproom will be closing permanently as our lease comes to an end. The last day of service will be February 28th. We’d love to see you one last time!,” a message posted on Facebook said.

The brewery is hosting a “Celebration of Life party” and inviting customers to help send off the location on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 4-8 p.m.

“If these walls could talk, there’d be stories of friendships made, people connected and a whole lot of beer shared,” the Facebook message continued.

“We deeply appreciate everyone who has made Southern Strain Plaza what it is over the past 5 years. And to our amazing staff, thank you for making it a welcoming place each and every day!” Southern Strain’s original Concord location will remain open. The flagship spot also offers food, with a menu that spans shareables such as loaded fries, Southern fried chicken with collards, burgers and kids’ meals. On Sundays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., there’s also a live jazz brunch, featuring waffles, breakfast burritos and shrimp and grits.
