A Charlotte-area Italian bistro is closing soon. Here’s what’s replacing it

The team behind Siano’s Pizza and Pasta, known for its tasty New Haven-style pies, is planning a new Charlotte-area restaurant focused on home-style Italian classics.

Trattoria on Main will open by mid-April, bringing fresh pasta, sauces and more to historic downtown Monroe. The rustic Italian kitchen will replace Main Street Bistro.

The latter is set to close March 24 after the owner announced her retirement.

“Owning and running this restaurant has been such an exciting part of my life, and I truly can’t thank this community enough for the support you’ve shown over these past years,” Lisa Boix, who took ownership of Main Street Bistro in 2023, wrote in a farewell message shared on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“From our longtime loyal customers, to those who stopped in occasionally, to the new faces we’ve welcomed more recently — each of you has meant so much to me,” Boix said. “You all have helped create the warm, friendly atmosphere that made coming to work each day so special.”

So what’s to come? By definition, a “trattoria” is a casual Italian eatery serving regional dishes in a cozy, familial setting. Travel writer Laura Itzkowitz broke it down best, writing for Travel & Leisure: “If an osteria is the most casual type of establishment and a ristorante is the most elegant, a trattoria is somewhere in the middle.”

Trattoria on Main will stay true to those vibes, promising classic “dishes inspired by our family recipes.”

“It’s the kind of food meant to be shared around the table with friends and family,” the Sianos wrote on Instagram. “Trust us … you’ll want to be hungry when we open!”

CharlotteFive reached out to the Sianos for more information and was awaiting a response.

The couple isn’t ready to share an official opening date, but encouraged foodies to stay tuned for an early look at the space and “what we’ve been working on.”
