South Charlotte cocktail bar closing after 3 months. ‘Grateful for all the love’

Masija, a Korean cocktail bar, is closing just a few months after its South Charlotte debut.

In a message posted to Instagram on Wednesday, owners invited the community to visit one last time before the restaurant shutters for good on Thursday, March 26.

A large platter of sliced boiled pork belly, known as bossam, is served with spicy radish salad and fresh cabbage leaves for wrapping. The table also holds a pot of spicy stew and various alcoholic beverages, capturing a communal dining experience.

“With a heavy heart, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Masija,” they wrote. “We’re incredibly grateful for all the love and support you’ve shown us — it has truly meant everything.”

The reason for the decision wasn’t immediately clear. CharlotteFive reached out for more information Wednesday and was awaiting a response.

Masija opened in the McMullen Creek Market in December, taking over the suite once occupied by 704 Korean BBQ, CharlotteFive reported. It touted itself as “cozy” Korean-style bar serving classic street food alongside soju cocktails, beer and wine.

The interior of the restaurant features an industrial design with exposed silver ductwork on the ceiling and a large mural of a traditional Korean street scene. Dark wooden tables and chairs are neatly arranged under dim, warm pendant lighting.

In its farewell message, the restaurant teased plans to open at a new location but did not say where.

The exterior of Masija Beer & Bites is shown, featuring a yellow banner over the entrance of a modern two-story white brick building. The storefront is located in a quiet shopping center with a Huntington Learning Center visible to the left.
