South End bar and arcade closes after 6 years. ‘Thank you for all of the memories’

Slingshot Social Game Club has gone kaput.

The South End bar, which offered light bites, bowling and a slew of arcade games, officially closed for business Saturday, March 28, according to a social media post.

“Thank you for all of the memories, it’s been an honor to serve you and grow with you but our time has come to say farewell,” the owners wrote on Instagram.

The exterior of a long, black brick building features a large white “Slingshot Social Game Club” logo with a stylized deer icon. A tall, gridded glass window reflects the sky, and a gravel lot sits in the foreground under a bright blue sky with white clouds.

The reason for the sudden closure wasn’t immediately clear. CharlotteFive reached out to Slingshot’s corporate office for more information on Tuesday, March 31, but didn’t immediately hear back.

The 14,800-square-foot hangout debuted in Charlotte in 2020 amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, Axios Charlotte reported at the time. Slingshot’s original location opened in Richmond, Virginia, but has since closed. The brand’s Atlanta outpost is the only one remaining.

Beyond a stocked bar and self-pour taps, Slingshot offered a full menu featuring classic bone-in wings, flatbreads, burgers and spicy chicken sandwiches. There was live music, too, plus a gaming inventory that included Skeeball, Giant UNO, Guitar Hero and more.

News of Slingshot’s closure drew strong, but mixed reactions among Charlotteans:
