27-year-old Charlotte restaurant to add location in SouthPark. What to know.

After nearly 27 years in Ballantyne, Miró Spanish Grille has its sights set on SouthPark for its newest restaurant opening this summer.

The neighborhood favorite, known for serving elevated classics like paella since 1999, inked a deal to take over the space that was once home to Fontana Di Vino, according to a news release sent to CharlotteFive.

The latter quietly closed in February without explanation.

The restaurant entrance features a striking white wall with vertical black slats and a large, black script logo that reads “Miró.” The view looks past the entryway into the dining area, highlighting the warm wood flooring, dark booths, and industrial ceiling. A large wooden chandelier hangs in the distance, adding a rustic touch to the sophisticated, contemporary design.

“SouthPark is one of Charlotte’s most dynamic dining corridors and a natural fit for our next chapter,” Miró co-owner and operator Felipe Alvarez said in a statement. “Our team has built something truly distinctive in Ballantyne, and we are excited to see that vision take shape in this neighborhood.”

The new location will offer classic tapas including empanadas, fried plantains and croquetas, Charlotte Business Journal reported. Also expect hearty mains like zarzuela de mariscos — a seafood stew — alongside steaks and pasta dishes. On the drinks side, there’s a curated selection of Spanish wines, plus cocktails and sangria, according to CBJ.

In a dimly lit, upscale restaurant with warm wood floors and a glowing chandelier, a plate of sliced sirloin steak topped with mushrooms and rosemary sits on a dark wooden table. Beside the steak is a bottle of Alto Moncayo red wine and a half-filled glass, creating a sophisticated dining atmosphere. The background shows a long, perspective view of the dining room with empty booths, dark walls adorned with framed art, and soft amber lighting.

“We have a little bit for everybody,” Alvarez told the outlet. “There are many familiar flavors that transfer.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
