French-inspired bakery café sets opening date for Plaza Midwood shop. Here’s when

Maman NYC, the French-inspired bakery and café serving salads, sandwiches and those famous Oprah-approved nutty chocolate chip cookies, finally has an opening date for its first Charlotte location.

The all-day café opens Wednesday, May 20, at Commonwealth in Plaza Midwood, according to a news release sent to CharlotteFive.

The sprawling 4180-square-foot space seats up to 128, with both indoor and outdoor options. Expect full-service brunch on the weekends, plus space for private events.

Alongside daily classics, coffee, soups and salads, Maman Plaza Midwood will offer two Charlotte-exclusive pastries:

  • Peaches & Cream danish ($6): Flaky croissant filled with peach, vanilla cream and topped with a honey-oat crumble.
  • Mac & Cheese croissant ($6): Homemade mac and cheese with scallions baked in a flaky croissant, garnished with parsley.

The NYC-based brand is known for its French countryside aesthetic and plans to bring that same flair to its newest location. Think: locally sourced antiques from North Carolina, custom toile-printed espresso machines, floral installations from botanical art studio Floratorium and imported blue and white counter tiles.

“Plaza Midwood’s vibrant and diverse community makes it the perfect fit for maman’s first location in North Carolina!” Maman cofounder, Elisa Marshall, said in the release.

“We are excited to join such a beautiful neighborhood and share our unique blend of French-inspired cuisine and warm, inviting atmosphere with you all.”

It’s just the first of a few cafés Maman has planned for the Queen City, CharlotteFive previously reported.

Registrations filed with the North Carolina Secretary of State’s Office in January suggest Maman is looking to open at least two other Charlotte cafés: one at the Atherton Mill shopping mall in South End, and another in the Eastover/Myers Park area.

Maman confirmed the additional cafés to CharlotteFive but said it was too early to discuss the timing for those openings.

Maman Plaza Midwood will be open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.
