Popular Charlotte bakery temporarily closes as triple-digit heat index lingers

A popular Charlotte bakery is closing for an extra day this week because the heat inside the building has become too much for employees.

Villani’s Bakery announced on Facebook that it will remain closed Tuesday because its air conditioning can’t keep up with the heat coming from the kitchen.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday’s high is expected to reach 95 degrees, with heat index values as high as 105. Tuesday’s high is forecast to be 93 degrees, with heat index values up to 103.

The bakery, which is normally closed on Mondays, said the conditions are no longer safe or comfortable for staff.

“As much as we hate to close, taking care of our team has to come first,” the bakery wrote. “We are so sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding more than you know.”
