What to do
Head to the reception for “Future Artifacts” at Projective Eye Gallery on Feb. 13 from 6-8:30 p.m. Director of Galleries Adam Justice worked with Thomas Schmidt and Janet Williams, both UNC Charlotte art professors, to curate an exhibition of artworks that directly or indirectly involve digital technologies.
Exhibiting artists include Alyson Shotz, Del Hawwor, Cha Jong Rye and Ivan Depena. The exhibition is on view through March 13 at the UNC Charlotte Center City gallery.
Where to go
Visit the Mint Museum Randolph for the first ever exhibition of basalt sculpture by Wedgwood. “Classic Black: The Basalt Sculpture of Wedgwood and his Contemporaries” will feature over 100 works ranging from life-size portrait busts to fanciful vases and dynamic statues of mythological heroes. However, this is not your grandmother’s ceramic show; exhibition designer HannaH Crowell invited Charlotte muralist OWL to give the walls an especially contemporary treatment.
According to to exhibition Curator Brian Gallagher, it’s a presentation the 18th century artist would have approved. “Wedgwood would have never wanted his works to sit on a putty-colored pedestal, against a putty-colored wall,” he said. It’s on view through Aug. 30.
What to see
See how a group of 14 Charlotte artists share their experiences with love in “PDA: An Art Show Exploring Displays of Affection.” The opening reception takes place on Feb. 15 from 6-9 p.m. at Crown Station in NoDa.
Rooted in the perspective that different generations and cultures each have their own approach to gestures of romance, this diverse group of artists will explore the many definitions of affection. Artists on view include Micah Cash, Matt Cosper, de’Angelo Did, Elisa Marie Sanchez, CHD:WCK! and Dammit Wesley, among others. The exhibit is on view through March 15.
