More than 20 Charlotte-area breweries will show their support for the family of fallen Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Officer Mia Goodwin with a beer festival this weekend.
Goodwin, 33, was killed on duty in December after two semi-trucks collided on Interstate 85 and hit her cruiser. Goodwin and three other officers were working an earlier accident in the area when the wreck happened. She is survived by her firefighter husband, Brenton Goodwin, and three young children, including an infant.
“Craft Brewers for a Cause” — organized by Suffolk Punch, Twenty Six Acres and Percent Tap House — will be held Saturday afternoon at Suffolk Punch.
All proceeds will go to the Goodwin family through the Salute to Heroes Charlotte Foundation, a nonprofit that helps public safety workers during times of need.
Two sessions will be held at Suffolk Punch, 2911 Griffith St., from noon to 3 p.m., and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets cost $50 per session, plus tax and fees, and include unlimited beer samplings and food from local craft breweries and restaurants, and a commemorative festival glass, the foundation said in a news release.
Tickets can be purchased through an EventBrite link at charlottesalutetoheroes.com.
Last month, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid the Goodwin family’s mortgage. Tunnel to Towers is a nonprofit created in honor of New York firefighter Stephen Siller who died during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
