Expect “significant disruptions” to uptown traffic this weekend with the return of the Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade, organizers of the city’s largest parade and festival warned Wednesday.
The event returns to uptown on Saturday and Sunday for the first time since 2019.
People are encouraged to use public transit to the event because driving could be a challenge, Matt Comer, Charlotte Pride communications director said in an email.
Organizers expect weekend attendance to exceed 2019’s record 200,000, Comer said. The event will be held rain or shine.
Watch for these street closures:
▪ Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday for event setup, South Tryon Street will close to vehicle traffic between Morehead and Fourth streets. East and West Good Samaritan Way, formerly Hill Street, also will be closed.
▪ Brooklyn Village Avenue, formerly Stonewall Street, will remain open at that time, along with Levine Avenue of the Arts, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Third Street.
▪ Levine Avenue of the Arts will close at 6 p.m. Friday.
From 5 a.m. Saturday until 11 p.m. Sunday:
▪ South Tryon Street will remain closed.
▪ Levine Avenue of the Arts, Martin Luther King Boulevard and Third Street will be closed.
▪ Brooklyn Village Avenue will remain open for east-west vehicle traffic.
▪ Northbound and southbound Tryon Street traffic will be rerouted to College Street for northbound traffic and Church Street for southbound traffic.
From 5 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday:
▪ Tryon Street will be closed to all traffic.
▪ All east-west cross streets between 4th Street and Morehead Street will remain closed.
▪ East-west cross streets between 12th and 4th streets will close beginning at 8 a.m.
▪ North- and southbound Tryon Street traffic will be re-routed to College Street for northbound vehicles and Church Street for southbound traffic.
