Olde Providence Racquet Club shone bright especially in the early 1970s, host to major events like the Davis Cup and the NCNB Tennis Classic. The club was founded in 1962.

This week, we learned a new tennis and entertainment complex could again attract the sport’s very best.

“One of the world’s most prestigious tennis tournaments, with 350,000 global ticket buyers and a $275 million economic impact, is considering moving to Charlotte’s budding River District. The Western and Southern Open attracts the world’s top men’s and women’s players, ranking just behind Wimbledon, the French Open, Australian Open and U.S. Open in prestige,” the Observer reported Wednesday.
