Two more men arrested in CMS bus shooting, court records show previous gun, drug charges

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested two more men connected to a shootout over an alleged drug dispute that struck a school bus last Monday and shattered a glass window that injured a couple of students.

Jaheim Boone, 23, was arrested Thursday and Joshua Woods, 21, was arrested Friday, the department said in a press release, bringing the total number of arrests to four.

Boone and Woods were charged with multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.

Boone was also charged with nine counts of discharging a weapon into a moving vehicle, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and one count of possession with intent to manufacture and sell cocaine, carrying a concealed gun, and obstructing a police officer. Woods was also charged with a count of felony conspiracy.

Court records showed that since 2020, Boone has been in court for other weapons and drug charges, as well as robbery and breaking and entering charges. Woods previously took a plea deal, court records showed, for an incident in June when he was arrested for allegedly firing a gun at an apartment building in southeast Charlotte where his ex-girlfriend lived. He struck the outside of the occupied building, a ceiling in a breezeway inside, and an unoccupied 2016 silver Nissan Versa, a CMPD arrest affidavit said.

He was charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied property as part of his plea deal, and had a charge for injury to personal property probation violation dropped. His 20-36 month sentence was suspended, and was given 36 months of probation. Woods also has pending charges from February for possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting an officer, as well as November charges for possession of fentanyl and cocaine.

Monday’s shooting

The four men allegedly were involved in a shootout early Monday evening on the 8800 block of East W. T. Harris Blvd., where it meets Idlewild Road south of Albemarle Road, sparked by a drug dispute.

A motion for no bond said Boone was “involved in a drug ‘turf’ dispute. In efforts to protect drug territory.” And that he fired his gun multiple times “at rivals.”

Arrest warrants accuse Boone of firing a 9 mm Glock 45 handgun, and Woods of firing a .223-caliber rifle and 9 mm firearm. Boone’s arrest warrant said there were 33 juveniles on the bus at the time of the shooting, as well as the driver.

Two students on board were treated for glass cuts, CMPD said. Albemarle Road Middle School Principal Toni Perry said in a message to parents that one student was injured and treated by MEDIC.

Boone’s arrest warrant said a grey 2018 Infiniti Q50 and a white Chevrolet Express van were also struck while people were in them and they were “in operation.”

A four-and-a-half-minute video released by the school district Friday showed bullets narrowly missing the students. Students’ faces are blurred out, but they can be heard screaming and checking on each other after gunfire struck the bus. One student can be seen crouching on a seat with another student, placing their body over their other student’s to protect them. The bus driver, wearing a Santa hat, got on her radio to call for help. After a few minutes, the drivers parked and the students exited the bus in a hurried panic.

Police previously announced the arrests of and charges for Lamarius Ramel Anthony, 21, on Tuesday, and Paris Lewis-Bynum, 20, on Wednesday. Court records showed both men have previous firearms charges.

Bond was not authorized for either Boone or Woods, according to court records.
