A South End coffee shop was once crowned Charlotte’s best. Now, it’s closing.
A mission-based coffee shop is closing after five years in Charlotte’s South End.
Bitty & Beau’s Coffee plans to shutter its shop at 1930 Camden Road on Sunday, March 22, Axios Charlotte and Charlotte Business Journal reported. Touted as the “original inclusive coffee shop,” the concept provides jobs to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
In 2022, CharlotteFive readers crowned it the city’s best spot for coffee. Bitty & Beau’s promises something for everyone, from cappuccinos to cold brew coffees and even smoothies. A few baked goods are available, too.
“This decision came only after deep reflection and exploring every possible option to avoid this outcome,” the owners wrote in a note posted inside the coffee shop, according to Axios Charlotte.
The letter thanked the local community for its support and “turning our shop into a vibrant hub of inclusion, joy, and belonging,” Charlotte Business Journal reported.
CharlotteFive reached out to Bitty & Beau’s Coffee for more information Tuesday, March 10, and was awaiting a response.
The coffee chain has more than a dozen locations in 11 states. Though its only Charlotte shop is set to close, North Carolinians can still visit Bitty & Beau’s Wilmington café.
