Bowls, sammies + smoothies: New restaurant brings wellness dining to Camp North End

Sage & Citrus wants to be “your next healthy obsession.”

The fast-casual eatery, which prioritizes fresh, wholesome ingredients, officially opens Saturday, April 4 at Camp North End. A ribbon cutting ceremony takes place at noon, according to a recent Instagram post.

Founder and Chef Darius Johnson is behind the menu of greens and grain bowls, sandwiches and hand-crafted smoothies, CharlotteFive previously reported. Kid-friendly offerings will be available, too.

“What makes Sage & Citrus different from any other wellness brand is our better ingredient promise,” Johnson said in a teaser video ahead of the restaurant’s opening. “No seed oils, no refined sugars and no food dyes. Whole ingredients only.”

During his time as caterer and private chef to pro athletes in the NBA and NFL, Johnson leaned into health-forward, farm-to-table practices that support overall wellness without skimping on flavor. Foodies will find much of the same at Sage & Citrus.

“The development of Sage & Citrus has been a process – one that pushed me to slow down and really get it right,” Johnson said in a news release sent to CharlotteFive.

“This is my first physical concept, so I wanted it to feel purposeful,” he said. “From the food to the experience, everything is built around creating something that people can come back to again and feel good about.”

Expect a variety of veggie-forward options. Think: citrus herb chicken on a bed of spinach, kale and cauliflower rice; a fried oyster mushroom sandwich; and roasted sweet potatoes.

Fruit smoothies are also the menu and can be customized with whey protein and other add-ins. If lemonades are more your taste, pick from organic dragonfruit mint and strawberry basil varieties.

Customers can also look forward to seasonal offerings in the spring and summer, including tacos and other plant-based dishes.

Sage & Citrus exists “to make the good choice the easy choice,” the restaurant’s website says. “Because better eating doesn’t need to be complicated — just intentional.”

Sage & Citrus will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
