Popular farmers market won’t return to Camp North End. ‘Thanks for five years!’

A popular farmer’s market serving Charlotte’s North End community is kaput.

The North End Farmers Market has called Camp North End home for the last five years, but operators said the development has declined to host them for the 2026 season.

“While we are saddened by the news, we are thankful for the past five years of their support,” a message shared on the market’s website and social media pages reads. “Sadly, it is too late on the calendar for us to develop a farmers market for the 2026 season in a new location.”

In a statement, Camp North End officials pointed to dwindling attendance and participation in recent years, and said hosting the weekly market “became unsustainable.”

“We’re proud to have been the sole sponsor for five years and are grateful to every vendor and customer who supported the effort to increase fresh food access in the North End,” Varian Shrum, chief of staff at Camp North End, told CharlotteFive.

“Our team is now evaluating new programming opportunities, and we look forward to announcing more soon.”

The change comes nearly two months after Jamestown, an Atlanta-based real estate and management firm, took over leadership duties as joint owner of the mixed-used development, The Charlotte Observer reported.

The North End Farmers Market was slated to kick off its season later this month, having previously operated at Camp North End every Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. until October. It was a weekly stop for locals in search of fresh finds including produce, meat, baked goods and more, CharlotteFive previously reported.

It’s operated by Farmer’s Market Management Services, which also runs the South End Farmers Market and Cotswold Farmers Market.

Now, managers say they’re in search of a new space where the market can “resume being a source of fresh, healthy, and local food to our North End community.”

“Thanks to our vendors and shoppers for their support and fellowship over the last five years and we look forward to the time when we can all get together once more,” they wrote.
