Which Charlotte roads will be closed for Lovin’ Life and Kendrick Lamar concert?

Weekend of music: Lovin’ Life Festival and Kendrick Lamar in Charlotte

It’ll be a jam packed weekend for music lovers in Charlotte, but it might be a bit tricky getting around the city.

This weekend marks the return of the second annual Lovin’ Life Music Fest, along with the highly anticipated Kendrick Lamar concert plus back-to-back Charlotte Knights games and the ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship.

So it’s an understatement to say that uptown will be packed all weekend long, which is why some roads have already been blocked off in the area since Wednesday.

“This incredible lineup of events shows what we already know: Charlotte has become a true destination for music, sports and culture,” Mayor Vi Lyles said at a press conference Monday.

According to the City of Charlotte website, here is a breakdown of all road closures related to three-day music festival and Bank of America stadium concert:

Lovin’ Life Music Fest road closures

The following streets will be closed due to Lovin’ Life, scheduled for May 2-4 at 300 N Brevard St.:

April 26

  • 8 a.m.: 8th St. between Caldwell St. and Brevard St.

April 28

  • 8 a.m.: 8th St. between Caldwell St. and the light rail tracks.

  • 7 a.m.-6 p.m.: Caldwell St. two lanes between 7th St. and 9th St.

  • 9 a.m.: 7th St. between Caldwell St. and Brevard St.

  • 9 a.m.-5 p.m.: Brevard St. left lane between 9th St. and 7th St.

  • 9 a.m. - 9th Street between Caldwell Street and Brevard Street one lane east bound.

April 29

  • 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.: Caldwell St. two lanes between 7th and 9th St.

  • 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.: Brevard St. left lane between 9th St. and 7th St.

April 30

The following streets will close at 9 a.m.:

  • 9th Street between Caldwell Street and the light rail tracks.

  • 8th Street between Caldwell Street and the light rail tracks.

  • 7th Street between Caldwell Street and the light rail tracks.

  • Brevard Street between 9th Street and 6th Street.

  • Caldwell Street between 9th Street and 6th Street.

There is an exception between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. for the Caldwell Street tow lanes between 7th St. and 9th St.

May 1

Everything will be closed. 7th St. between College St. and Brevard St. will be open from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. to accommodate school bus access to Imaginon, according to the City of Charlotte website, with bus traffic permitted to turn right onto Brevard St.

All roads will reopen Tuesday, May 6 except the following streets:

  • 9 a.m.-10 p.m.: Brevard St. (one lane)

  • 12 a.m.-5 p.m. Caldwell St. between 7th St.and 9th St. (two lanes)

  • 12 a.m.-7 p.m. 7th St. between Caldwell St. and Brevard St.

8th St. between Caldwell St. and Brevard St. is expected to reopen May 8.

Kendrick Lamar & SZA concert road closures

According to city officials, there will also be a pre-concert festival ahead of hip hop star Kendrick Lamar’s show in uptown on Saturday, May 3 from 1-4:30 p.m. Here’s which streets will be blocked off for the event:

  • S. Mint St. between W. Morehead St.and 1st St.

  • Brooklyn Village Ave. between S. Church St. and S. Mint St.

  • S. Graham St. between S. Mint St. and W. Martin Luther King Blvd.

Roads will be closed beginning May 2 at 7 p.m. and will be back open at 11:30 p.m. after the show Saturday.

Public transportation deal for fans

Ahead of the big music weekend, Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will run extra blue line trains and is offering a discount on rides.

Three-day unlimited passes are available for $15 through May 3 in the CATS-Pass app, and can be bought for those going to the festival, Knights game or Kendrick Lamar concert, the city’s website says.
