One of the most ambitious music festivals ever planned for Charlotte — the inaugural Lovin’ Life Music Fest, which has been slowly but steadily unveiling its May 3-5 lineup — revealed three fresh additions to it on Friday morning:
- The Chainsmokers, the Grammy Award-winning electronic duo comprising Drew Taggart and Alex Pall responsible for chart-topping hits like “Closer” and “Don’t Let Me Down.” They last performed in the area in 2021, when they were on the bill at Breakaway Carolina, the EDM/pop/house/dance music festival held each fall at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
- Quinn XCII, 31-year-old singer-songwriter whose best-known songs include “Love Me Less” and “Stacy.” He brought his “The People’s Tour” to Charlotte’s Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre last May.
- And Petey Pablo, the Greenville, North Carolina hip-hopper behind early 2000s hits like “Raise Up” (a love letter to his home state) and “Freek-a-Leek” (a love letter to sex and drugs). He popped up as a surprise-guest performer at a Snoop Dogg show at the Fillmore Charlotte in December 2019.
These three acts join previously announced Lovin’ Life Music Fest performers Post Malone, Stevie Nicks, Noah Kahan, Mt. Joy, Dominic Fike, Young the Giant, Jessie Murph, Maggie Rogers, DaBaby, Dashboard Confessional, The Struts, and David Kushner.
The three-day event will take place on roughly 20 acres in and around First Ward Park in uptown Charlotte, with the main stage set on a parking lot along Ninth Street between Brevard and Caldwell streets. There will be two other stages, and First Ward Park will host food, art and “experiential” vendor booths.
Festival organizers have promised more than 40 artists “spanning multiple genres and generations” — so, with just 15 announced so far, many more are presumably on the way. (It’s also worth noting that they intend for one of the stages to be “a local and regional stage” — and with all of the bookings so far being national acts, many of the forthcoming announcements will likely include local and regional musicians and bands.)
It’s unclear which artists will be performing on which nights. In some cases, process of elimination might help fans narrow dates down, if only slightly. For instance: The Chainsmokers’ website lists the duo as performing at XS Nightclub in Las Vegas on May 4, which means, of course, that they’ll either be in Charlotte on May 3 or 5.
The cheapest ticket for the festival costs just under $300 and covers all three days. According to the FAQ page on its website, single-day tickets are not currently available.
Charlotte-based Southern Entertainment, which also produces two four-day June festivals — Carolina Country Music Festival in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Barefoot Country Music Fest in Wildwood, New Jersey — hopes to sell out the 30,000 tickets it is making available for Lovin’ Life.
