Expand All

We’re back for another week of tracking Xavier Bonner, the 6-foot-6-inch UNC-Chapel Hill Ph.D. candidate competing for the attention of Charity Lawson on Season 20 of ABC’s “The Bachelorette.”

Last week, Xavier and 13 other men received a rose from Charity, after a couple of nice one-on-one dates and a very revealing game of beach dodgeball.

This week, the whole gang moved to Oceanside, California.

What happened on Week 2? Keep reading.

Xavier just wants to have fun

Xavier was once again on the group date, which tapped into some “Barbie” movie synergy and had Charity decked out in hot pink looking for her Ken.

The guys had to write a love song for Charity to the tune of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” and perform at a concert in front of a crowd of strangers. First they grabbed a bunch of costumes and props, each guy taking on the persona of a different Ken.

Xavier was “Sugar Daddy Ken” in a gray wig and plaid jacket holding a little stuffed dog. (There was also a Classic Ken, an Astronaut Ken, an Ice Skater Ken, a Birthday Suit Ken, a Double Denim Ken, a Rollerblade Ken, a Bad Boy Ken, a Glitter Beach Ken, an 80s Prom Ken, a Merman Ken and a Cowboy Ken.)

We didn’t get to hear a clip of Xavier singing, but Double Denim Ken (Sean) won the chance to spend some extra time with Charity. He did not make any friends among the other guys.

Even at the cocktail party after the date, we didn’t get any clips of Xavier. Dotun got the date rose.

A close-knit connection

We’d gotten a brief glimpse of Xavier knitting on the bus, and later at the cocktail party he gave Charity a huge handmade scarf (or small throw).

Smooooooth move.

“I’ve never knit anything for anybody before,” Xavier told her. “While I was doing this, I was thinking, how can I be the person for you, and how can I also show you who I am.”

Then they shared a nice kiss.

Non-Xavier moments on the show

Brayden got the first one-on-one date, and the two took a classic Mustang to a helicopter, which whisked them to Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. They played catch, hit a few balls and kissed while the creepy Padres mascot jumped around them. Brayden was on his best behavior and got a rose.

The other one-one-one date went to Warwick. He and Charity went to an amusement park, which they had all to themselves. There were a lot of awkward silences and he just didn’t have a lot/anything to say. And he stood by while Charity scooped her own ice cream. Scooped her own ice cream!! It was no surprise when she sent him home. Dude was actually yawning in the car ride (to a hotel? an airport?) and fell asleep — or was pretending to sleep to avoid the post-reject interview.

Brayden returned to his obnoxious ways at the cocktail party, and the guys just don’t love him. I can relate. Aaron B. was this week’s narc, telling Charity that he doesn’t think Brayden is serious about her. He then gave Brayden a heads-up that he’d done that, and Brayden got mad at him for not being “a stand-up dude” (“that’s not what you do, bro!”) and acted like a 12-year-old. Pleeeeeze shut up.

Xavier told Aaron B. that he didn’t think it was cool for him to tell Charity this stuff about Brayden at the cocktail party, because it creates problems for the rest of them. The other guys also seemed to think it was a foolish move, because Brayden would just talk his way out of it. Which he did.

Did Xavier get a rose?

Yes, Xavier got a rose and will be back next week.

In fact, the previews for next week look amazing because 1. Xavier appears to get a one-on-one date and 2. Brayden likely implodes and gets sent home.

Who went home on Week 3 of ‘The Bachelorette’?

These guys didn’t get a rose this week:

  • Warwick
  • Aaron S.
  • James
  • Adrian
