Concord Robinson’s Lavar Batts Jr. is state’s top recruit in 2017 according to latest Prep Hoops NC rankings
Concord Robinson point guard Lavar Batts Jr. is the top recruit in North Carolina’s senior class according to Prep Hoops’ North Carolina’s latest rankings.
Prep Hoops North Carolina is one of three major statewide recruiting services, along with NC Preps and Phenom Hoop Report. Each puts out its own rankings. Prep Hoops NC also released its 2018 revised rankings Tuesday.
Batts, a 6-foot-1 senior, led Robinson to the N.C. 3A state championship last March. He kicked off his senior season Saturday with a game-high 34 points in a 76-71 loss to Providence Day at the Charlotte Hoops Challenge. Robinson, ranked No. 3 in the latest Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 poll, was scheduled to play at Central Cabarrus Tuesday night.
▪ Observer-area players were well-represented in the top 30: No. 5 Justyn Hamilton of Independence; No. 12 Ryan Schwieger of Weddington; No. 13 Sage Surratt of Lincolnton; No. 22 Wes Morgan of Ardrey Kell; and No. 29 Rob Peterson of Charlotte Christian.
Vance High’s Cam Hamilton, chronicled in a profile in Tuesday’s print editions of the Charlotte Observer, was the biggest mover in the rankings. Hamilton, who has scored 79 points in his past two games, jumped from No. 30 to No. 9.
