Following arguably one of the most dramatic finales of “The Bachelorette” — for real this time – Raleigh’s Marcus Shoberg has spoken out after his early exit on the ABC reality show.

Among 24 other men from around the country, the Army Ranger veteran quickly became a frontrunner as he pursued an engagement with 26-year-old Jenn Tran.

Spoiler alert: Despite having what appeared to be the strongest chance of capturing her final rose heading into the last week, Jenn broke up with Marcus before they even had a final date, when he still wasn’t sure of his feelings 24 hours before a potential proposal.

He admitted that he did love her, but that he couldn’t live up to what she needed. Even then, Jenn was ready to call it quits because “she was sick and tired of investing so much time and energy into someone who doesn’t feel the same way.”

Ultimately, Jenn decided that Devin Strader was her match. She proposed to him, but their engagement was short lived, she told a national TV audience Tuesday night. A distraught Jenn said she and Devin were no longer together after Devin broke off the relationship.

“He basically said that he didn’t love me anymore and didn’t feel the same way and felt like something had been off since the second that he proposed,” Jenn said.

Jenn came face to face with both men for the first time during Tuesday’s live finale and had to talk about not one but two emotional breakups. Jenn and Marcus had a mature conversation about why their relationship didn’t move forward.

After the dust settled, Marcus posted on Instagram about his time on the show. During filming, he and Jenn had connected over having rocky childhoods, and he often was emotional in describing his time in the military.

While he didn’t specifically address his relationship with Jenn or anything that happened during or after filming, he talked about how it’s been worth it to be vulnerable through his experience.

“Vulnerability is not a weakness; it’s a strength. It’s the courage to stand in front of the world and say, ‘This is who I am, scars and all,’” he shared in an Instagram post Wednesday night.

“I’ve been honest with my emotions—on @bacheloretteabc and in life—because I believe that being open is the only way to truly live. I’ve shed tears over the past, over love, and over the trials that have shaped me. But those tears don’t make me weak; they make me human. They are proof that I’m still here, with a heart that refuses to be hardened by the world.”

After a life-threatening injury while serving overseas, Marcus said he “learned the value of relationships, the preciousness of time, and the power of resilience” with therapy and his faith to help him heal and move forward.

“There’s a young boy or girl out there, somewhere in the world, who feels like they don’t have a way out, like they don’t have the resources or support to chase their dreams. I was that kid once. And now, I’m living proof that no matter where you start, you can rise above your circumstances,” the post says.

“I believe I was spared for a reason—to be a light for those who have lost theirs, to offer hope to those who feel hopeless. I’m not perfect; I don’t have all the answers, but I do know this: the hardest moments in life often become the most transformative. God has a plan for each of us, even when we can’t see it.

“So here’s my heart, laid bare. My life has meaning, my experiences matter, and if sharing them helps even one person find their way out of the darkness, then it’s all been worth it.”
