Marcus Shoberg, an Army veteran who lives in Raleigh, has been in the national spotlight as he pursues Jenn Tran’s heart in the 21st season of ABC’s hit reality show, “The Bachelorette.” Here’s The News & Observer’s coverage of the season.

Once again, another person from North Carolina will be in the national spotlight looking for love on ”The Bachelorette.

In the newest season of ABC’s hit reality show, 25 men will be vying for the heart of the franchise’s newest leading lady, 26-year-old Jenn Tran. One of those men is a military veteran from Raleigh.

Meet Marcus

Touted as a “real-life superhero,” 31-year-old Marcus Shoberg is an Army Ranger veteran who served in the military for eight years, according to his LinkedIn. He also recently founded a local software engineering company.

“The military veteran and Harvard alum is so excited to meet Jenn and hopes she’s the kind, honest, humble woman for whom he’s been searching. Marcus is a man of humility and wants to start a life with someone who shares his core values. When he isn’t working hard toward his career and his future, Marcus loves going rock climbing with friends and grilling on a Saturday night,” his Bachelorette bio says.

Aside from being outdoors cooking or climbing, he’s also a fan of “New Girl” and hopes to become an astronaut one day.

“Marcus has been in love before and is ready to settle down and start a family with his perfect match. He is looking forward to meeting Jenn and is hoping to find a relationship that will stand the test of time,” according to his bio.

Former North Carolina contestants on The Bachelorette

The Bachelor franchise has had several ties to North Carolina over the years, with multiple contestants from the Tar Heel state, including Madina Alam from Charlotte on the most recent season of “The Bachelor” and Xavier Bonner from Raleigh on last year’s “Bachelorette,” along with:

This upcoming season, Shoberg will be the only North Carolina contestant on the show.

You can tune in to see his journey to winning The Bachelorette’s final rose beginning Monday, July 8 at 8 p.m. on ABC, streaming the next day on Hulu.
