Hurricane Helene Aftermath

Hurricane Helene swept across the Southeast, causing major flooding and destruction throughout North Carolina. Here is ongoing coverage from The News & Observer and The Charlotte Observer about Hurricane Helene and the aftermath, particularly in Western North Carolina.

As thousands of people are picking up the pieces from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, several businesses around Charlotte are working to support those affected by the storm across the state.

Along with several nonprofit organizations accepting donations to provide food, water and other emergency supplies for victims, local restaurants, bars, boutiques and other businesses that have set up fundraisers and donation drop-offs to give back to the communities around North Carolina heavily hit by the storm. Here is a list, and we will update it on our website at CharlotteFive.com as we learn more:

760 Craft Works

Location: 100 Gilead Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078

760 Craft Works in Lake Norman has set up a drop-off site in its taproom for storm victims in Western North Carolina. The team is working with the Huntersville Police Department to send supplies to Mitchell and Yancy Counties along with Lincoln County and Hickory Regional Airports for supply drops throughout Western North Carolina.

  • Cheat’s Cheesesteaks is donating a percentage of weekend sales to the WNC Aid for Farmers fund by Piedmont Culinary Guild in support of Piedmont Culinary Guild farmers.
  • The Crunkleton will donate all sales of its Bright Days Ahead and New Air cocktails ($17 each) to support BeLoved Asheville, which is distributing food and water.

  • Puerta will donate all sales of its Tijuana Lady and Montanista cocktails ($17 each) to Project Do Good: High Country Disaster Relief Fund, which is partering with local churches, rescue teams and shelters.

  • Rosemont will donate all sales of its Bee’s Knees and Hanky Panky cocktails ($17 each) to Support Hope Mill Inc’s Hurricane Relief, which is making supply drops in rural areas. The restaurant will also be hosting a relief drive drop-off for dry goods, toiletries, water bottles and non-perishables.

AerialCLT

AerialCLT is collecting donations at the studio for Operation Airdrop in support of storm damage from Helene. The fitness studio is accepting powdered hydration packs, baby wipes, diapers, baby formula, bug spray, sunscreen, plastic utensils, trash bags, non-perishable foods, cleaning supplies, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toiletries and more.

Arrichion

Location: 125 Winona St, Charlotte, NC 28203

Arrichion’s yoga and circuit training studio in Charlotte will be hosting a special donation-based mystery stone class Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. with proceeds going to Red Cross of North Carolina. The studio is asking for a $15 minimum donation for the class open to all members and nonmembers.

Artisan Vegelato

Location: 301 W John St #5356, Matthews, NC 28105

At Artisan Vegelato, 10 percent of all sales will be donated to Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee hurricane relief.

Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar

Bad Daddy’s is hosting a supply drive through Oct. 11, where the restaurant is collecting items including nonperishable food, hygiene products, baby formula/diapers, food/pet supplies, blankets/bedding and powdered hydration packets.

The Batch House

Location: 901 Berryhill Rd, Charlotte, NC 28208

This week, The Batch House’s 100 percent of the sales from its coffee cake will go toward helping hurricane victims.

Blaze Pizza

Location: Multiple

Blaze Pizza’s Asheville team members have been affected by the storm, and the team is launching a GoFundMe to help them. The pizzeria has been part of the Asheville community for 10 years and has ties to Charlotte — and entrepreneur Jimmy Sierra is the franchise owner for Blaze Pizzas in the Charlotte, Gastonia and Asheville markets. In the meantime, if you want to drop supplies off for team members in need at any Charlotte-area Blaze Pizza between now and 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, the team will be driving to Asheville and can take them along. Feel free to drop them off after Friday as well and they will be delivered during a future trip.

Botiwalla by Chai Pani

Guests can add a donation directly to their check when they dine at Botiwalla by Chai Pani in Optimist Hall. All donations go towards supporting Chai Pani Restaurant Group team members who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Charlotte Knights

Location: MLK Jr. Blvd side of Truist Field, 404-420 W Martin Luther King Jr Blvd

On Thursday, Oct. 3 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., the Charlotte Knights and iHeartMedia Charlotte will receive items for those in Western North Carolina. These items will be given to Operation Airdrop and Next Level Disaster Relief. Bring: sports drinks (powdered packets), hydration packs (powder form), baby wipes, diapers (children and adult), baby formula, bug spray, sunscreen, plastic utensils, manual can openers, trash bags (13 gallon or contractor bags), nonperishable food items, cleaning supplies, plastic sheeting/tarps, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toiletries/sanitation items, pet food (dog and cat), hand sanitizer, sanitizer wipes, feminine hygiene products and heavy duty work gloves and socks (all sizes, unopened). Use the ballpark side of MLK Jr. Blvd. to drop off items.

Charlotte Motor Speedway

Charlotte Motor Speedway is collecting essential items, including bottled water and non-perishable food, for victims in the N.C. mountain areas. Items can be dropped off at the speedway each Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through the month of October to be distributed.

Concord Walmart

On Friday, Oct. 4 until 5 p.m. a group of volunteers with Operation Airdrop will be accepting donations outside of the Walmart in Concord to be delivered to Western North Carolina storm victims. You can drop off hydration packs, bug spray, sunscreen, sleeping bags, warm clothes, diapers, wipes, contractor size trash bags, non-perishable food, toiletries, pet food, feminine hygiene products, socks and more.

Chef Alyssa Kitchen

Location: 4001 Yancey Rd, Charlotte, NC 28217

Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen is collecting donations and making 1,500 meals and granola bars to deliver to Black Mountain on Saturday morning.

Coffee Republic

Location: Multiple

Coffee Republic is collecting donations at any of its North Carolina locations, including Huntersville, Denver, Mooresville, Cornelius, Matthews and Ballantyne. Suggested items include baby formula, children’s medicine, diapers, pet food, flashlights, batteries and more.

The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar

Location: 4310 Sharon Rd, Charlotte, NC 28211

The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar in Charlotte will be collecting donations until Thursday, Oct. 3 to deliver to victims in Western North Carolina. The restaurant is accepting nonperishable food, pet food, cleaning supplies, toiletries, tarps, plastic utensils, sunscreen and more.

Customshop

Location: 1601 Elizabeth Ave, Charlotte, NC 28204

Customshop will hold a “Customshop for WNC” dining out night on Oct. 16, with 25 percent of sales going to BeLoved Asheville. Diners can also contribute to the cause via a donation line at the bottom their receipts now through Oct. 16.

Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse

Location: Several locations in the Charlotte area

Duckworth’s, The Cellar at Duckworth’s and Link & Pin are donating 5 percent of total sales across all Duckworth’s and Link & Pin locations to Hearts With Hands beginning Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Additionally, The Loft at Duckworth’s will also be donating 5 percent of total sales, beginning Thursday, Oct. 10.

EEZ

EeZ Fusion & Sushi in Birkdale Village is accepting donations until Thursday, Oct. 3 for victims in western North Carolina. The Lake Norman restaurant is collecting nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, toiletries and more.

The Evening Muse

The Evening Muse and Tosco Music are donating all the money from open mic nights on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 to hurricane relief in Western North Carolina. Bring items to donate as well when you come out for open mic.

At Fred and June’s Books, 10 percent of in-store sales this week will be donated to the N.C. Relief fund.

Goldberry Books

Goldberry Books is accepting essential supplies to be delivered to victims Burnsville, Marion, Hendersonville, and Black Mountain. Nonperishable foods, cleaning supplies, trash bags, toiletries, pet food, feminine hygiene products and more can be donated through Oct. 3.

GoodVets Charlotte

At GoodVets Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood location, drop donations of pet items, including pet food, collars, leashes, carriers, blankets and first aid or human needs, including nonperishable human food, blankets, feminine hygiene products, water and first aid.

Great Wagon Road Distilling Co. NoDa and local breweries

Great Wagon Road Distilling Co., in partnership with other Charlotte-area breweries, is collecting supplies for victims in Western North Carolina. Water, first aid supplies, toiletries and other essential items can be dropped off at the following locations in addition to its NoDa location:

The week of Sept. 30, The Happy Camper is donating a percentage of all online and in-store sales to nonprofits supporting storm victims impacted by Helene.

Heist Brewery and Barrel Arts

Heist and Records on the Wall are teaming up for a benefit show — Nectar, a Picture of Phish — on Friday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m, with a $10 suggested donation. All donations and a portion of bar sales will be donated to Asheville.

Higher Grounds by Manolo’s

At Higher Grounds by Manolo’s, 10 percent of all sales will be donated to Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee hurricane relief.

Hi-Wire Brewing Charlotte

Hi-Wire Brewing is collecting hurricane relief supplies at its Charlotte, Wilmington and Durham locations to be flown to Asheville and surrounding areas. You can support Hi-Wire’s staff via its online relief fund.

The Hobbyist

The Hobbyist is accepting donations through Oct. 4 to be delivered to families in need in Western North Carolina. The NoDa bar’s team is requesting batteries, flashlights, diapers, baby wipes, baby food, canned goods, bottled water, pet food, feminine products and toiletry items.

Homewurk

Location: Online

The owner of Homewurk, an online Charlotte-based clothing brand, has created a special “Carolina” sweatshirt with 100% of proceeds benefiting nonprofits working to support storm victims. When purchased online, shoppers will be able to allot donations to Samaritan’s Purse or Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.

The Hunter Farm

Location: 13624 Providence Rd, Weddington, NC 28104

The Hunter Farm in Weddington has set up a donation bin to collect items for storm victims in Western North Carolina. You can drop off water, protein bars, diapers, baby formula, sports drinks powder, blankets and ready to eat meals at the front desk to be given to Fleetwood Volunteer Fire Department in Ashe County to distribute.

Jack’s Corner Tap

Location: 8301 Magnolia Estates Dr, Cornelius, NC 28031

Jack’s Corner Tap has set up a trailer outside of its space to gather donations for storm victims impacted by Helene. The Lake Norman bar is accepting nonperishable food, water, medicine, toiletries, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies and more.

Josh’s Farmers Market

Location: 630 Brawley School Rd, Mooresville, NC 28117

For the weeks to come, there will be drop-off bins set up at Josh’s Farmers Market in Lake Norman to be sent off to storm victims. The farmers market team is requesting food, bottled water, contractor-size trash bags, blankets, first aid supplies, feminine hygiene products, diapers and baby clothes, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, paper towels and more.

The King’s Kitchen

Noble Food & Pursuits is collecting donations to support its efforts of providing chef-prepared meals through its non-profit restaurant, The King’s Kitchen to those impacted by the storm. Donations can be made online at giving.myamplify.io//app/giving/eGiving-499683.

Lake Norman Brewery

Location: 1753 Triangle Cir, Denver, NC 28037

Lake Norman Brewery is accepting donations to be delivered to Ashe County through Oct. 3 at 10 p.m. The local Denver spot is requesting contractor-size trash bags, shovels, brooms, gloves, non-perishable food, bottled water, first aid supplies, toilet paper, paper towels and more.

Magnolia Coffee

Between now and Oct. 6, 25 percent of Magnolia Coffee’s online orders will be equally split between the American Red Cross and the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund. Place your order online to automatically contribute.

Mama Ricotta’s

Mama Ricotta’s is collecting essential items for storm victims through Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. The Midtown restaurant is accepting nonperishable food, pet food, hand sanitizer, feminine products, toiletries and more.

Manolo’s Bakery

At Manolo’s Bakery, 10 percent of all sales will be donated to Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee hurricane relief.

Midwood Smokehouse (Plaza Midwood)

Location: 1401 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205

The team behind Midwood Smokehouse has set up a donation site at its Plaza Midwood location.The restaurant’s team is requesting hydration packets, baby wipes, diapers, bug spray, sunscreen, plastic utensils, manual can openers, trash bags, nonperishable foods and more be dropped off before Oct. 3 at 11 a.m.

Mimosa Grill

Location: 327 S Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202

Mimosa Grill is hosting an Oct. 12 dinner to benefit Helene survivors, with donations going to World Central Kitchen. The collaboration will include chef Brittany Cochran of Stagioni, chef Kaley Laird of Mimosa Grill, chefs Ryan Allen and Ryan Forte of Carolina Farm Trust and chef Nic Daniels of TPC Piper Glen. The four-course dinner is $75 per person and includes wine.

McLaren Charlotte

McLaren Charlotte car dealership has set up a donation drop-off for storm victims in North Carolina and neighboring states. Essential items like food, water and first aid kits can be dropped off anytime from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Murto Made

Location: 11941 Ramah Church Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078

Location: 166 N Main St, Mooresville, NC 28115

Murto Made is collecting donations at both of its distilleries during operating hours or via its GoFundMe. Items include gas (for people’s generators) and nonperishable food items.

Neighborhood Theatre and other independent music venues

Location: 511 E 36th St, Charlotte, NC 28205

Independent music venues across the state, including Neighborhood Theatre, will make a donation for every ticket sold in October to assist with hurricane recovery efforts.

NoDa Brewing Co. and other local breweries

NoDa Brewing Co., Birdsong Brewing, the NC Brewers Guild and other local breweries are coming together to can drinking water to make regular shipments to the mountains, according to WCNC. Local breweries in the mountains will distribute the water from there.

OpenTap

Location: 5010 Carmel Center Drive Charlotte, NC 28226

OpenTap is accepting donations for Western North Carolina folks affected by Hurricane Helene. Items include: Hygiene products, bottled water, baby formula, nonperishable food, baby food and toilet paper.

Panzú Brewery

Location: 7251 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227

Panzú Breweryin Mint Hill is collecting donations for storm victims as temperatures continue to drop. The team is accepting coats, gas heaters, gloves, beanies, blankets, socks, thermal wear, tents, lanterns, camping stoves, camping gear, weatherproof gear and charcoal.

Petty Thieves Brewing Co.

Location: 413 Dalton Ave Suite B, Charlotte, NC 28206

On Thursday, Oct. 3, at Petty Thieves Brewery, three different comedy houses will host a show soto raise money for Asheville charities: Acting Out Studios, Queen City Comedy and Charlotte Comedy Theater. All proceeds will benefit the disaster relief effort from Hurricane Helene. Tickets are $20, with the option to add an additional donation.

PIE.ZAA

Location: 1440 South Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28203

Asheville-based PIE.ZAA has set up a GoFundMe to gather supplies and support rebuilding efforts for storm victims around the mountain area. The local pizza restaurant’s online fundraiser can be accessed online at gofundme.com/f/together-we-rise-help-asheville-recover.

PlantHouse

After its Asheville location was damaged in the storm, PlantHouse announced its accepting donations at all of its Charlotte-area locations to be transported to Western North Carolina. The teams are requesting water, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby formula, diapers, clothing, wipes, blankets, flashlights, pet food and more.

Queen City Animal Hospital

Location: 920 Belmont Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205

Queen City Animal Hospital is gathering supplies to help pets in need after Hurricane Helene. Items in need include dog/cat/small mammal/reptile dry food, plastic or aluminum bowls, crates/cat carriers and cat litter. Please don’t bring liquids or chemicals, as the plane is unable to transfer those.

Sanctuary Bistro

Location: 6414 Rea Rd # C2, Charlotte, NC 28277

Sanctuary Bistro is holding special weekly benefit dinners every Thursday in October to support different organizations working to help storm victims affected by Helene, including Sweet Bear Rescue, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, Humane Society of Charlotte, NC Arts National Relief and Feeding the Carolinas. Ten percent of sales from the dinners will be donated.

Showmars

Location: Multiple

Showmars has partnered with the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund to raise money for disaster recovery efforts. Restaurant diners can contribute through online or mobile app methods, or in person at the restaurants.

SouthPark After 5

Location: Symphony Park, 4400 Sharon Road, Charlotte NC 28211

Supply donations will be accepted until 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 alongside SouthPark After 5 activities. Donations needed include water, nonperishable food items, cleaning supplies and trash bags, diapers and baby wipes, and paper plates and plastic utensils. Adams Beverage and Southern Entertainment are providing a large truck that will deliver supplies to Western North Carolina on Friday, Oct. 4.

The American Red Cross will also be on site for blood donations from 3-8 p.m., thanks to organizing partner Albemarle Corporation.

Suffolk Punch Brewing and SouthPark Mall

Location: 4400 Sharon Rd Space G23D, Charlotte, NC 28211

Via The Independence Fun, people can drop supplies off at Suffolk Punch Brewing at SouthPark now until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Suffolk Punch Brewing SouthPark is offering a 10% discount (one per family) on any purchase for those who donate bottled water, non-perishable food, PPE, cleaning supplies, hygiene items for adults and children diapers and wipes, children’s books and toys, or items such as sleeping bags, can openers, solar device chargers, flashlights, batteries, buckets, shovels, and rakes.

Summit Coffee

Location: Multiple

Summit Coffee has been personally touched by the tragedy of Hurricane Helene: Its cafe in Asheville’s River Arts District is gone. Until Oct. 6, the coffee shop will give 100% of proceeds from all online coffee orders to a fund for that team from the River Arts District.

SweatNET Charlotte and other local fitness studios

SweatNET is teaming up with several fitness studios around the Charlotte area to collect donations all month long to be delivered to Operation Airdrop every Friday in October. Essential items can be dropped off at the following studios:

Sycamore Taproom

Location: 2151 Hawkins St, Charlotte, NC 28203

On Thursday, Oct. 3, Sycamore Taproom is hosting a night with live music, pints and a Canes raffle, where proceeds will benefit supplies and animal rescue help in Western North Carolina. You can bring supplies or donate via venmo. Dean Peterson performs from 4-7 p.m. and Side Dish and Desert Tacos take the stage from 7-11 p.m.

Tita’s Cake House

Location: 115 E Innes St, Salisbury, NC 28144

At Tita’s Cake House, 10 percent of all sales will be donated to Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee hurricane relief.

Vaulted Oak Brewing

Location: 3726 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC 28205

Vaulted Oak Brewing is collecting donations for the Asheville Humane Society as well as Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, which has lost all of its buildings, vehicles and resources – and has 137 foster animals to care for. Add your donation to your tab and Vaulted Oak will split the total to help the two organizations.

Vestique

Vestique will be collecting nonperishable supplies at its warehouse and flagship store in Charlotte until Friday, Oct. 4 to be delivered to victims western North Carolina. The boutique team will be collecting bottled water, non-perishable food, contractor-size trash bags, blankets, first aid supplies, feminine hygiene products, diapers, hand sanitizer, toilet paper and paper towels.

Winnie’s Boutique

Winnie’s Boutique in Plaza Midwood is accepting essential items to be delivered to Western North Carolina and affected communities in South Carolina. Along to taking drop-off donations, the local boutique will also be donating all proceeds from its “Carolina” t-shirts and tank tops to charitable organizations.

West Kept Secret

West Kept Secret is hosting a donation-based class on Oct. 3rd with all proceeds benefiting Operation Airdrop. The class begins at 8:30 a.m.

White Duck Matthews

White Duck’s Matthews location is raising money to give to MANNA FoodBank in Asheville. Each dollar you donate will enter you into a raffle at the restaurant, with prizes including a $100 gift card, merch and more. The raffle will run through Oct. 8 and winners will be announced on Oct. 9.

The Wing King Cafe

The Wing King Cafe will be collecting supplies for storm victims at all three of its locations around the Charlotte area through Oct. 5. Nonperishable food items, toiletries and other essential supplies will be accepted for victims in the North Carolina mountain areas.

Wooden Robot

Location: 1440 S Tryon St UNIT 110, Charlotte, NC 28203

Location: 416 E 36th St STE 100, Charlotte, NC 28205

Wooden Robot is asking for supply donations to bring to shelters in Western North Carolina. The breweries are seeking emergency supplies, including water, baby needs, hydration packets, toiletries, new socks and underwear — “the things you notice first when they’re gone,” the team stated on Instagram. Daily trips will be made to Asheville area with donations.

Donations can be brought to either of Wooden Robots locations or to other local dropoff spots:

YAFO Kitchen (Plaza Midwood)

Location: 1331 Central Ave #101, Charlotte, NC 28205

YAFO Kitchen is collecting donations for Western North Carolina storm victims at its Plaza Midwood restaurant. Essential items can be dropped off anytime before Oct. 3 at 11 a.m.
