If Saturday’s incoming cold front isn’t enough to get you in an autumn state of mind, maybe this will: Reservations are already available for dining igloos, at least for one Charlotte restaurant.

Merchant & Trade’s seasonal igloos open Nov. 2 and will be available to book until March 30, 2022.

The dining igloos became popular last winter during COVID-19, as restaurant owners looked for safe ways to host customers who were part of a quarantine bubble.

Questions about the safety of the igloos quickly became part of the national conversation, fostering discussions about how to keep them properly sanitized and ventilated between parties.

In addition to theoretical coronavirus protection, the bubbles provide a shield against wind and cold — which will feel warm and cozy in the outdoor areas of Merchant & Trade during Charlotte’s coldest months.
